Iran, Egypt Voice Support for Syria
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign ministers of Iran and Egypt expressed the two countries’ support for the territorial integrity of Syria.
In a telephone conversation on Wednesday night, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty discussed the latest developments in Syria, which has been gripped by a new wave of terrorism.
Briefing the top Egyptian diplomats on the results of his negotiations with the Syrian and Turkish officials during recent visits to Damascus and Ankara, Araqchi reaffirmed Iran’s policy of supporting the Syrian government, army and nation in the fight against terrorist groups.
The Iranian foreign minister also noted that the resurgence of terrorist groups in Syria poses a serious threat to regional peace, stability and security.
He called for constant diplomatic efforts and consultations among influential regional actors to combat the threat of terrorism in Syria.
For his part, Abdelatty said he has held talks with the foreign ministers of a number of countries in recent days about the situation in Syria.
He also emphasized Egypt’s policy of supporting Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and official organizations.
Araqchi and Abdelatty agreed to stay in touch amid the turmoil in Syria.
