Iran’s Envoy, Embassy Staffers in Syria Safe: Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the country’s ambassador and the embassy staff members in Damascus are safe after the fall of the Syrian government.

Esmaeil Baqaei announced on Sunday that the necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the safety and security of the Iranian embassy staffers in Damascus.

The ambassador and the embassy staff members are in full health, he added.

Asked about reports of violation of the Iranian embassy building in Damascus, Baqaei condemned the move, saying the protection of the safety and security of diplomatic and consular sites and missions is a fundamental principle of international laws and relations that must be observed in all circumstances.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has warned against this issue in contacts with the parties influential in Syria’s developments and has called for the prevention of recurrence of such violations,” the spokesman added.
