Iranian Forces Thwart Terrorist Entry, Seize Explosives in Sardasht

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian border guards foiled a terrorist attempt to enter the country near Sardasht, in Iran's northwestern province of West Azarbaijan, and seized a large quantity of explosives, according to a senior official.

Iran's Border Guards Commander, Brigadier General Ahmad Ali Goudarzi, stated that border forces in Sardasht intercepted terrorist movements based on intelligence they received.

"Upon observing several individuals attempting to breach the border, our forces encountered with the infiltrators," Goudarzi stated.

He noted that the terrorists were unable to withstand the heavy firepower of the border guards.

"In the end, they abandoned their backpacks and, taking advantage of the terrain and darkness, fled the scene," the General added.

Following a thorough inspection, border guards discovered 10 backpacks containing 15 explosive packages, weighing approximately 77 kilograms.

They also seized 5,000 electronic detonators and 13 sheets for making suicide vests, along with related fabric materials.

The operation underscored the vigilance and preparedness of Iran's border security forces in preventing terrorist activities, general Goudarzi emphasized.
