The joint statement was signed by Pezeshkian and his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe on Thursday.

The two presidents also oversaw a ceremony as senior officials signed the 22 MoUs under which the two countries will expand cooperation in various fields from diplomacy to transportation, anti-corruption programs, food security, and digital technology.

Addressing a meeting of high-ranking delegations before the ceremony, Pezeshkian said Iran and Tajikistan can promote cooperation in the scientific, economic, political and security fields.

He noted that Tehran-Dushanbe relations can serve as a platform to help resolve the problems of the Islamic world and to address the issues in Afghanistan and Syria.

Rahmon, for his part, said the people of Tajikistan and Iran share many historical and cultural commonalities.

The Tajik president expressed assurance that the negotiations between the high-ranking delegations can pave the way for closer cooperation between the two nations.
