Iranian President Pezeshkian Arrives in Russia for Strategic Partnership Signing

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Moscow on Friday to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin and sign a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty.

The 20-year agreement aims to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, transport, logistics, and culture, as well as address regional and international issues.

Prior to Moscow, Pezeshkian visited Dushanbe, Tajikistan, where he discussed bilateral, regional, and international matters with President Emomali Rahmon. The two leaders oversaw the signing of 23 cooperation documents across various fields.

In Moscow, discussions between Pezeshkian and Putin will cover "prospects for further expansion of bilateral cooperation, including in trade, investment, transport, logistics, and culture, as well as current regional and international issues," according to the Kremlin.

Iran's envoy, Kazem Jalali, emphasized that the agreement reflects Iran's focus on independence, security, and self-reliance.

Both nations have faced Western sanctions and have strengthened their cooperation in recent years. From the start of this year until the end of December, Iran exported 1.056 million tons of non-oil goods to Russia, valued at $803 million, marking a 14% increase compared to the same period last year.

This visit marks a significant step in solidifying the relationship between Moscow and Tehran, with both sides seeking to enhanced bilateral cooperation.
