Pezeshkian, Putin Cement Bilateral Ties with New Strategic Agreement

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Moscow to discuss expanding bilateral relations, with a new Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement.

The agreement, set to boost cooperation in trade, energy, transport, and education, is seen as pivotal for both nations moving forward.

During their meeting, Putin praised the agreement as a critical step to deepen bilateral ties. He noted that it will accelerate cooperation and provide additional momentum in areas such as nuclear energy, an area where both countries have been actively collaborating.

"Your visit today is of particular significance because it provides us not only the opportunity to discuss all areas of our cooperation but also to sign a major foundational agreement between Russia and Iran on comprehensive strategic partnership," Russian President Vladimir Putin said during talks with his Iranian counterpart.

The two leaders discussed plans to expand mutual cooperation, addressing key issues in trade, investment, regional dynamics, and international affairs, signaling a promising future for Russian-Iranian relations.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that signing the new agreement between Russia and Iran will provide significant momentum for bilateral relations.

Pezeshkian also stated that the bilateral relationship between Russia and Iran is of strategic importance and has a comprehensive character.

Pezeshkian also highlighted the excellent progress in agreements on the construction of a nuclear power plant, noting that they may be finalized today.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Pezeshkian met Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, who called the visit “historically significant.”

Mishustin emphasized that the treaty would lay the foundation for long-term cooperation between the two countries and highlighted growing collaboration in energy, transport, and education, with over 9,000 Iranian students currently studying in Russia.

Pezeshkian, whose visit is focused on strengthening political and economic relations, also paid respects at Moscow's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to honor the sacrifices made during World War II.

Having arrived in Moscow after visiting Dushanbe, Tajikistan, Pezeshkian led a high-ranking delegation.
