General Staff Dismisses Speculation on Crash That Killed Former Iranian President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces dismissed speculation on the reason behind a helicopter crash that killed former President Ebrahim Raisi and his entourage in May 2024.

Politics

In a statement released on Saturday, the General Staff of the Armed Forces rejected the claims and irresponsible comments made about the tragic crash.

It said the unfounded claims in the virtual space by various people about how President Raisi was martyred are out of touch with reality and have been made out of ignorance, lack of knowledge or with specific purposes.

Citing three official reports from the General Staff, the statement attributed the crash to “complicated atmospheric and geographical conditions of the region” where the incident happened, rejecting speculations about any technical failure, sabotage, terror attack, blast, or electronic warfare.

President Raisi, along with Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and six others, were martyred when their helicopter crashed into the mountains and caught fire on May 19, 2024.

President Raisi was laid to rest at the Shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in the northeastern city of Mashhad.
