This is the first visit by an Iranian foreign minister to Afghanistan after the Taliban took power in 2021.
In a post on his X account, Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baqaei said the trip has been made within the framework of good neighborliness and aimed at fulfilling Iran’s national interests through interaction and joint solutions to common concerns.
“This visit can be a milestone in the employment of the abundant bonds between the two nations for the fulfillment of the two countries’ mutual interests,” Baqaei said.
The economic and trade delegation accompanying Araqchi on this trip indicates Afghanistan's significant position in Iran’s trade exchanges.
