The meeting, held in Kabul on Sunday, was co-chaired by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Taliban's acting foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.
Describing Iran and Afghanistan as brothers and friends, Araqchi said the two neighbors have strong cultural and historical bonds and have maintained close relations throughout history.
The Iranian foreign minister also hailed the good economic and trade relations between the two countries, expressing hope that his visit would result in the enhancement of bilateral ties and fulfilment of the national interests.
For his part, Muttaqi expressed hope that the Iranian delegation’s trip would be fruitful and broaden the relations between the two Muslim neighbors.
This is the first visit by an Iranian foreign minister to Afghanistan after the Taliban took power in 2021.
