In a meeting held in Tehran on Sunday, Araqchi and Hikmet Hajiyev, an assistant to the president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, talked about the relations between the two neighbors.
The Iranian foreign minister pointed to the numerous commonalities and deep historical, cultural, and religious bonds between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
He stressed Iran’s policy of good neighborliness and its resolve to expand ties with neighbors as well as President Pezeshkian’s support for closer relations with Baku, the ministry’s website reported.
Araqchi expressed hope that the ties between the two neighbors would expand based on mutual respect and trust.
He stressed the importance of developments in the Caucasus region and their impact on the stability, security, and development of regional countries.
Araqchi reiterated Iran’s policy of support for the will of regional nations to resolve issues through negotiation, utilizing regional capacities, and avoiding destructive interventions from extra-regional states.
For his part, Hajiyev underlined the Azeri president’s determination to expand ties between the two brotherly neighbors in all spheres based on mutual respect and trust.
He also referred to the recent visits by the two countries’ officials and the holding of the Tehran-Baku joint economic commission, saying the two states have a huge potential to boost their ties.
