Iran Calls for OIC Meeting on Gaza

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Iran called for an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss the US’ illegal plan for the forced relocation of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

In a telephone conversation on Saturday, Abbas Araqchi and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty talked about the regional developments, particularly the situation in Palestine and Gaza, as well as the bilateral relations.

The Iranian foreign minister pointed to Egypt's stance in support of the legitimate rights of the oppressed Palestinian people.

Araqchi described the forced displacement plan of the Palestinian people from Gaza as a colonial conspiracy to eliminate Palestine and a serious threat to regional stability and security.

The Iranian foreign minister noted that the US president’s illegal plan regarding Gaza has faced strong opposition from various countries and emphasized the need for a unified and decisive stance by the Islamic countries to counter the conspiracy against the fate of the Palestinian people.

Araqchi also called for an urgent meeting of the foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss and decide on the matter.

The Egyptian foreign minister, for his part, outlined his country's diplomatic efforts and positions in supporting the legitimate rights of Palestinians and ensuring the implementation of a ceasefire agreement to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and rebuild Gaza.

He also rejected the forced displacement of the people of Gaza as unacceptable.

Welcoming the proposal to hold an emergency meeting of the OIC, Abdelatty emphasized the need for extensive consultations among the Islamic countries on the issue.
