Iran Seeks Resolution on Canceled Flights to Lebanon

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - In response to Lebanon’s cancellation of Iranian flights, Iran’s ambassador emphasizes diplomatic efforts to resume regular air travel between the two countries.

Iran's Ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, called on the Lebanese government not to block Iranian flights, emphasizing ongoing efforts to resume air routes between Iran and Lebanon.

Amani revealed that on Thursday and Friday, Lebanon canceled two weekly scheduled flights from Iran to Beirut.

He noted that although the Lebanese government had previously assured that the flights would proceed, the cancellations left Lebanese pilgrims stranded at Tehran airport.

The Iranian envoy pointed out that the cancellations coincided with statements by an Israeli spokesperson alleging that the planes were carrying illegal goods.

Amani stated that Lebanon suggested replacing the Iranian aircraft with another plane.

He welcomed the operation of Lebanese flights but opposed the cancellations of Iranian flights.

"We agree with the Lebanese government's request, provided that they do not obstruct Iranian flights," Amani said, adding that efforts are underway to restore flight operations between Iran and Lebanon to their previous schedule.

The ambassador confirmed that Iran Air flights would operate this week and next week.

He also noted that the flight cancellations had sparked anger among Lebanese citizens and Hezbollah supporters, as some interpreted the move as an attempt to hinder Iranian participation in the funeral of the late Secretary General of Hezbollah Seyed Hassan Nasrallah.

Amani expressed hope that the Lebanese government would resolve the issue wisely to ease tensions.
