Insecurity in Syria Benefits Israel: Iran’s FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Iran warned that insecurity and instability in Syria would only serve the interests of the Israeli regime and give leeway to the terrorists and extremist groups.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan held talks on the sidelines of an extraordinary ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Saudi Arabia on Friday.

In the meeting, the Iranian foreign minister emphasized the necessity to step up cooperation and coordination among the Muslim countries to address the challenges facing the Islamic world, particularly in West Asia.

He called on the Islamic world to take decisive and unified actions to foil the colonial plot to exterminate Palestine through the forced displacement of the people of Gaza and the annexation of the West Bank to the occupying entity.

Araqchi further highlighted the dangerous developments unfolding in Syria, stressing the responsibility of Syria's new rulers to safeguard the security and lives of all groups and segments of the Syrian society.

He warned that insecurity and instability in Syria would only benefit the Zionist regime and provide opportunities for the terrorist and extremist groups to exploit the situation.

Araqchi said the relations between Iran and Turkey are exceptional and based on the mutual interests of the two neighboring Muslim nations. He underscored that preserving and protecting the bilateral relations is a shared responsibility of the officials of the both countries.

The Turkish foreign minister, for his part, referred to the shared concern of the Islamic countries in supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and their liberation from occupation, reiterating Turkey's commitment in this regard.

Fidan also highlighted the importance of Iran-Turkey bilateral relations and underlined the determination and resolve of the Turkish leaders to maintain and enhance bilateral ties in various fields.
