Iran Won’t Await Any Letter from US: Parliament Speaker

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran will not wait to receive any letter from the US, Speaker of the Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said, slamming the US president’s push for talks as a calculated deceit for the purpose of imposing disarmament on Iran.

Reacting to US President Donald Trump’s claim that he has sent a letter to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei about negotiating a new nuclear deal with Iran, Qalibaf said in a parliamentary session on Sunday that Tehran won’t await any letter from the US.

“We believe that the enormous internal capacities and the opportunities for the promotion of foreign relations with other countries could take Iran to such a position that the enemy will have no option but to remove the sanctions within the framework of continuation of negotiations with the countries remaining in the JCPOA,” he said.

Dismissing Trump’s claim that he seeks to negotiate with Iran, Qalibaf said the US president’s treatment of the other countries demonstrates that he acts deceitfully by pretending to favor negotiations with the purpose of imposing disarmament on Iran.

What is clear is that no negotiation would result in the removal of sanctions under the specter of threats and with an American agenda that entails new concessions, he added.

In remarks on Saturday, Ayatollah Khamenei said the goal of some bullying powers that insist on negotiations is not to resolve issues but to exert control and impose their own agendas.

“The insistence of some bully governments on negotiations is not aimed at resolving issues, but rather (aims) to assert and impose their own expectations,” the Leader said in a meeting with heads of the three branches of government and a number of Iranian officials in Tehran.

“Absolutely, the Islamic Republic will not accept their expectations,” Ayatollah Khamenei added.
