Iran Hails Kyrgyz-Tajik Border Treaty as Diplomatic Success
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei congratulated Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on successfully concluding a border treaty, calling it a step toward regional stability.
Extending congratulations to both sides, Baqaei described the success in conducting the agreement as a significant step toward peace and stability in the region.
He further emphasized that the treaty highlights the effectiveness of diplomacy in resolving disputes between nations while ensuring mutual respect and shared interests.
The presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan signed a treaty on Thursday to formally demarcate their shared border, aiming to resolve a long-standing dispute that has led to deadly clashes in recent years.
The agreement follows repeated conflicts, particularly around the Kyrgyz town of Batken, where skirmishes in 2021 and 2022 escalated into a six-day confrontation in September 2022, leaving dozens dead.
