Militants Kill Five in Southwestern Pakistan Bomb Attack

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A separatist militant group carried out a deadly bombing on a paramilitary convoy in southwestern Pakistan, killing at least five people and injuring over 30, officials said on Sunday.

The attack occurred just days after the same group hijacked a train and held hostages for 36 hours.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the assault in Noshki, a district in the volatile Balochistan province.

Senior Superintendent of Police Hashim Momand confirmed that more than 30 members of the paramilitary force sustained injuries in the explosion.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack in a statement, as the country grapples with an escalating security crisis in its regions bordering Afghanistan.

Last Tuesday, the BLA seized the Jaffar Express in a remote mountainous area of Balochistan, detonating explosives on railway tracks in an attack that killed 31 soldiers and civilians, according to the military.

Meanwhile, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan to the north of Balochistan, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur denounced a series of attacks on police forces.

While he did not disclose casualty figures, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for 16 attacks over the past 24 hours.

Pakistani authorities have pledged to intensify their crackdown on growing insurgencies, attributing them partly to militants seeking refuge in Afghanistan—an accusation the ruling Afghan Taliban denies.

Militant activity in the region often surges as winter recedes, allowing for increased movement in the mountainous border areas.
