Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Esmaeil Baqaei condemned the US’ recent military attacks against Yemen as a crime and an act of aggression that has claimed many innocent lives.
Asked about the American threats amid the raids on Yemen, the spokesman said Iran will undoubtedly give a decisive response to any act of aggression against its territorial integrity and national security.
Rejecting the accusations of Iran’s backing for Yemen, he said the US and Israel attribute the measures of the resistant Yemeni people to others in order to make up for their defeats and suppress support for the Palestinian nation.
“The Yemeni people and government make decisions independently,” he stated, adding that Yemen’s actions in support of the Palestinian resistance are the result of the Yemenis’ strategic decisions.
The Iranian spokesman also called on the international community and Islamic countries to take immediate measures to prevent the continuation of attacks on Yemen.
US President Donald Trump on Saturday announced a series of large-scale attacks on Yemen after the Houthi forces threatened to resume raids on Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea over Israel’s blockade on Gaza.
The US attacks, which began on Saturday and continued into the early hours of Sunday, on the Yemeni capital Sana’a, as well as on areas in Saada, Al Bayda and Radaa have killed dozens of people, including children and women.
