German, UK Envoys Summoned over Human Rights Allegations against Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the ambassador of Germany and the British charge d’affaires in Tehran in protest at their governments’ move to initiate a draft resolution against Iran at the UN Human Rights Council.

The German ambassador and the UK’s charge d’affaires were summoned by Forouzandeh Vadiati, the director general of the Women and Human Rights Department of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in protest at the UK and Germany’s hostile stances against Iran at the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council and initiation of a draft resolution to extend the mandate of the Special Rapporteur and the so-called Fact Finding Mission on Iran.

The Iranian diplomat notified the German and British envoys of Iran’s strong protest at their governments’ “irresponsible and provocative” stances, ISNA reported.

Vadiati reminded the German ambassador of his country’s delivery of chemical weapons to the regime of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in the imposed war against Iran in the 1980s.

She also condemned the manipulation of the UN Human Rights Council and the abuse of human rights for exerting pressure on the Iranian people.

In the meeting with the British charge d’affaires, the Iranian diplomat pointed to the long history of the British government’s interference in the internal affairs of Iran and its hostile stances against the Islamic Republic at the UNHRC.

Denouncing the UK government’s “unconstructive measures”, she said such an approach would discredit the human rights organizations affiliated with the UN and create mistrust of those institutions.

Vadiati also condemned Germany and the UK’s support for the Israeli regime’s war and genocidal crimes against Palestine, denounced Berlin and London’s compliance with the US’ unilateral sanctions against the Iranian people, and stressed that the UK and Germany are in no position to claim to be advocating human rights.

The two envoys said they will convey Iran’s protest to Berlin and London.
