In a statement issued on March 21 via Yemen News Agency (SABA), the Yemeni Armed Forces said they have conducted the missile attack “in support of the oppressed Palestinian people and in response to the massacres perpetrated by the criminal Zionist enemy against our people in the Gaza Strip”.
The Yemeni military forces said their missile units have conducted “a qualitative military operation targeting an Israeli military target south of the occupied Jaffa region with a Palestine-2 hypersonic ballistic missile”.
The Yemeni forces said the missile operation has successfully achieved its goal, noting that it was the second such operation in 24 hours.
“The operations of the Armed Forces supporting Gaza will not be halted, no matter how long the American aggression continues. These operations, in addition to the ban on Israeli navigation, will continue until the aggression against Gaza stops and the blockade is lifted,” the statement said.
Earlier on Thursday, the Yemeni forces launched a hypersonic missile at Israel’s Ben Gurion airport, days after the Israeli army broke a ceasefire in Gaza.
The Yemeni strikes came after the United States began a new campaign of air raids against the Houthi forces earlier this week.
The US has targeted Yemen with waves of strikes since Saturday, and the Yemeni forces have declared they will escalate their attacks, including on the Israeli regime, in response. The US attacks have killed at least 31 people.
The Yemenis have carried out more than 100 attacks on shipping since Israel’s war on Gaza began in late 2023, saying they are acting in solidarity with Gaza’s Palestinians.
Yemen’s arsenal includes long-range ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones capable of hitting targets up to 2,000 kilometers away, which has been on full display in recent months.
