Hamas Spokesman Killed in Israeli Airstrike in Northern Gaza
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Hamas spokesman Abdel-Latif al-Qanoua was killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting a tent in Jabalia, a town in northern Gaza, early on Thursday, the Palestinian resistance group said in a statement.
Al-Qanoua was "martyred when the Israeli occupation army struck his tent in the Jabalia al-Balad area," Hamas-affiliated Al-Aqsa TV reported.
In a statement mourning his martyrdom, Hamas said Israel’s targeting of the group’s leaders and spokespeople would not weaken its resolve.
"The occupation's targeting of our movement's leaders and spokespersons will not break our will; it will only strengthen our determination to continue the path until the liberation of our land and holy sites," the statement read.
The Palestinian Popular Resistance Movement also condemned the killing, describing it as an "assassination" carried out through a "barbaric bombing."
“The blood of the martyrs is a trust that we will not compromise and will be a curse on the occupier,” the group said in a statement.
Since Israel resumed its military offensive in Gaza on March 18, at least 830 Palestinians have been killed and 1,787 others wounded, mostly women and children, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.
The United Nations said around 124,000 Palestinians have been displaced again following renewed Israeli attacks and evacuation orders.
Since the start of Israel’s genocidal military campaign in Gaza in October 2023, nearly 50,200 Palestinians have been killed and over 113,700 injured, the ministry said.
