In a statement released on Thursday, Esmaeil Baqaei strongly condemned the Israeli regime’s aerial and ground assaults on Syria that have destroyed civilian, scientific and research facilities as well as a series of defense infrastructures in Damascus, Hama, Homs, and Daraa.
He said the Zionist regime’s recurrent acts of aggression have targeted Syria’s most valuable defense assets and civilian infrastructures and have occupied strategic areas of the Arab country since the fall of the former government.
Highlighting the responsibility of all parties to prevent Israel’s aggression, Baqaei said Iran has been warning during the past months, in consultations with the regional countries, against the Zionist regime’s abuse of the conditions in Syria and the expansion of Israeli occupation and belligerence against Syria and the other countries in the region.
“As before, the Islamic Republic of Iran stresses the need to maintain and protect the territorial integrity, dignity and national sovereignty of Syria as a deep-rooted and dignity-seeking nation in the major region of West Asia,” he said.
The Iranian spokesman finally called on the international community, the regional states, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to take urgent and effective measures to stop the Zionist regime’s acts of aggression, end Israel’s impunity, and hold it accountable for egregious law-breaking, constant acts of aggression against the regional countries, and the genocidal crimes in the occupied Palestine.
The Israeli regime’s military aircraft carried out attacks in Syria’s capital Damascus and in the central province of Hama on Wednesday in the latest string of strikes on the war-torn country.
SANA reported that the attacks targeted the vicinity of the scientific research center in the Barzeh neighborhood of the capital, as well as the airport in the Syrian city of Hama.
Since the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in December, Israel has carried out hundreds of air strikes in Syria and deployed troops to a United Nations-patrolled buffer zone on the occupied Golan Heights.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), Israel’s military carried out more than 500 air attacks on targets in Syria between December 8 and December 31, 2024, and has carried out at least 43 attacks so far this year.
