Iran-US Indirect Talks to Kick Off in Muscat on Saturday Evening

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Tasnim has obtained information that delegations from Iran and the US will start indirect negotiations in Muscat in the afternoon of Saturday, April 12.

The information obtained by Tasnim shows that Iranian and American teams will arrive in the capital of Oman on Saturday morning.

The two sides are expected to hold indirect negotiations after a meeting with the foreign minister of Oman.

Considering the timing of their arrival, the Iranian and US delegations are expected to begin the negotiations in the afternoon. Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi will exchange messages between the two sides.

A number of sources told Tasnim that Iran has defined a number of redlines for the upcoming talks. Iran has reportedly emphasized that the US delegation must avoid using the langue of threat or making excessive demands about Iran’s nuclear program.

The US has been also urged to refrain from proposing anything about Iran’s defense industry, and has been reminded that Iran will by no means accept the language of threat or allow its redlines to be crossed.

Sources also told Tasnim that Iran is always prepared to build trust about the peacefulness of its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of sanctions, adding that the ball is in the US’ court as the Americans will have no difficult path in the talks if they are frankly concerned about a nuclear bomb.

If the Americans enter the talks hypocritically and make excessive demands, they will have to bear international responsibility for obstructing the negotiations, the sources said.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced on Tuesday that the only subject that will be mooted at the upcoming indirect negotiations with the US in Oman is the nuclear issue and assurances about the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program.

The foreign minister had already confirmed to Tasnim that the talks in Muscat will be led by him and US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff.
