Pezeshkian Extols Benefits of De-Escalation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian highlighted the far-reaching positive impacts of peace and de-escalation as a result of diplomacy, but stressed that his administration has not tied anything to the results of the indirect talks with the US.

In a meeting with the presidents of the medical science universities of Iran on Friday, Pezeshkian pointed to the ongoing indirect talks between Iran and the United States.

He stressed that the administration has not conditioned its performance to the outcome of the negotiations.

The president, however, emphasized that de-escalation will result in many positive developments.

Pezeshkian highlighted his administration's diplomatic efforts to tackle the regional and international challenges, reiterating that Iran has never sought to initiate conflict and is committed to resolving its differences peacefully, his official website reported.

Denouncing the Zionist regime as a primary source of terrorism in the world, the president said the Israeli actions should be recognized as genocide in the truest sense of the word.

Pezeshkian also criticized certain states that claim to be advocating human rights but remain silent regarding the atrocities committed by the Zionist regime, while they accuse Iran of neglecting human rights.

Delegations from Iran and the US held a round of indirect talks in Muscat on April 12, mediated by the foreign minister of Oman.

The two sides, led by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and the US president’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, have expressed satisfaction with the initial steps.

The new round of negotiations will be held in Rome on Saturday.
