Iran Pursuing Logical Deal: Araqchi

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stressed the need to seize the opportunity to strike a “logical and rational” deal over Iran’s nuclear program that would entail the removal of sanctions against Tehran through trust-building measures.

Araqchi, who has traveled to Italy for the second round of Oman-brokered negotiations with the US, had a meeting with his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani in Rome on Saturday.

Hailing Italy for making arrangements for the new round of Iran-US indirect talks in coordination with Oman, Araqchi reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to diplomacy.

The Iranian foreign minister also stressed the need to grasp the opportunity to reach a rational and logical agreement that would fulfill Iran’s legitimate rights, lift the cruel and illegal sanctions against Tehran, and resolve any ambiguity in Iran’s peaceful nuclear program through voluntary trust-building measures.

Reiterating Iran’s opposition to weapons of mass destruction according to its religious and national values and its defense doctrine, Araqchi described the Zionist regime as the sole obstacle to a Middle East free of nuclear weapons.

The Iranian foreign minister also called on the international community and the European countries to adopt responsible stances against the Israeli regime’s genocidal crimes, law-breaking and acts of aggression that are aimed at aggravating insecurity in the Middle East and promoting Iranophobia.

For his part, Tajani lauded the long history of relations between Italy and Iran.

He noted that Italy is resolved to contribute to the success of the negotiations between Iran and the US.

Delegations from Iran and the US held a round of indirect talks in Muscat on April 12, mediated by the foreign minister of Oman.

The two sides, led by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and the US president’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, have expressed satisfaction with the initial steps.

The new round of negotiations is held at a diplomatic site of Oman in Rome on Saturday.
