Man Arrested after Attempting to Access Roof of Trump Tower in Manhattan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Police arrested a man at Trump Tower in New York City on Sunday after reports of suspicious behavior near the building’s upper levels, prompting a significant security response and building evacuation.

A 30-year-old man was taken into custody after being spotted on an elevated surface believed to lead to the roof of Trump Tower, authorities said.

Security personnel intercepted the man before he could reach the top of the 58-story skyscraper, which houses President Donald Trump's penthouse, private residences, shops, and a public atrium.

The New York Police Department received reports of the incident at approximately 4:30 p.m. local time and deployed its emergency response unit.

Police evacuated people from the atrium as a precaution, and video footage posted by journalists showed officers in helmets and safety harnesses detaining the suspect.

The suspect’s identity and motives have not been released, and it remains unclear what charges, if any, he may face.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.

Trump Tower, which opened in February 1983 and stands 663 feet tall, has previously been the site of protests, bomb threats, and public stunts.

In 2016, a man attempted to scale the building and was stopped on the 21st floor by officers.

The latest scare follows a separate high-profile security incident on January 1, when a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas.

The blast killed one person inside the vehicle and injured at least seven others.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, stated the explosion was caused by "very large fireworks and/or a bomb" placed in the truck’s bed and was not related to the vehicle itself.

Jeremy Schwartz, acting FBI Special Agent in Charge in Las Vegas, told reporters at the time, “I know you have a lot of questions. We don’t have a lot of answers.”

That incident led to heightened security measures around Trump properties, including Trump Tower in New York.
