Child among at Least 10 Killed As Israeli Strike Hits Gaza School Shelter

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Israeli attack on a school sheltering displaced civilians in Gaza City killed at least 10 people, including a child who died in a resulting fire, according to Palestinian emergency services.

The Palestinian Civil Defense said its teams recovered 10 bodies early Wednesday after a fire engulfed the school, which had been serving as a shelter for displaced residents.

A large number of people were also injured in the strike, the agency said on Telegram.

“Children are being burned while they sleep in the tents of the displaced,” Al Jazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif wrote on social media following the incident.

“There are no safe areas, and no survivors of this genocide. Gaza City and its northern areas have been subjected to heavy Israeli shelling and artillery fire for hours,” he added.

Video footage posted on social media showed flames engulfing the shelter, with melted canvas and charred debris, including a bed frame and chairs, visible among the wreckage.

The Civil Defense also appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross for urgent assistance to rescue civilians trapped beneath rubble after Israeli forces bombed two homes in Gaza City’s Tuffah neighborhood.

“Trapped people are calling for help to rescue them from under the rubble of homes,” the agency said.
It noted that rescue teams could not reach the area due to it being designated a “no-go” zone by Israeli forces.

Separately, a child was reported among two people killed in an Israeli attack on tent shelters in Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza on Wednesday morning, according to Al Jazeera Arabic and local Palestinian media.

In southern Gaza, one person was killed and several others injured in an Israeli drone strike on tents in the al-Mawasi area, which had been labeled a “safe zone.”

Intense Israeli artillery fire and airstrikes were reported throughout the Gaza Strip in the early hours of Wednesday.
