Dozens Injured in Iran’s Southern Port Blast

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A massive explosion that took place at Iran’s southern Shahid Rajaei Port on Saturday has injured at least 80 people, an official said.

The spokesperson for the Medical Emergency Service in the port said at least 80 people have sustained injuries in the huge explosion.

The Customs Office at the port said in a statement that the cause of the incident was probably a fire at the hazmat and chemical materials storage depot.

The explosion occurred at the Sina container yard of Shahid Rajaei Port, only two kilometers away from the building of the Customs.

Tasnim’s correspondent at the port said the magnitude of the blast was such that the vehicles near the container yard were completely wrecked.

Rescue forces and firefighters from the nearby cities have been deployed to the site of the blast.
