Iran-US Talks in Progress in Serious Mood: Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The third round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the US is well underway in Muscat in a serious atmosphere, Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baqaei said.

Baqaei announced in a post on his X account on Saturday afternoon that the indirect talks between Iran and the US are in progress in a serious atmosphere.

He said delegations from the two countries are exchanging messages through Oman about the effective termination of sanctions on Iran, building trust about the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, and the protection of Iran’s right to enjoy nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

The third round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the US got underway in Muscat on Saturday morning.

According to the arrangements made by Oman and an agreement between Iran and the US, the expert-level meetings that started in the morning will precede indirect talks between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and the US president’s special envoy Steve Witkoff.

The two countries have held two rounds of talks in Oman and Italy on April 12 and 19 with the purpose of reaching a deal on Iran’s nuclear program and the removal of sanctions on Tehran.
