Iran-US Talks Focused on Nuclear Subject: Araqchi

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the three rounds of indirect talks with the US have revolved solely around nuclear issues and the removal of sanctions against Tehran.

Speaking to reporters after the conclusion of talks with the US in Muscat on Saturday, Araqchi said all rounds of negotiations on April 12, 19, and 26 in Oman and Italy have been focused on nuclear topics.

Iran would only negotiate the nuclear subject in exchange for the termination of sanctions, he stressed.

Praising Oman for mediating in the talks between Iran and the US, Araqchi said the most recent round of negotiations were “much more serious” than the previous rounds as the parties started discussions on details and technical issues in the presence of experts.

He said although differences remain on macroscale topics, the two sides were serious in the Muscat talks, which created an atmosphere of “cautious hopefulness”.

The Iranian foreign minister said the next round of talks will be probably held on May 3, adding that Oman will determine the location and details. Araqchi said he and US president’s special envoy Steve Witkoff will continue to attend the talks.

Experts from the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) will be joining the talks in the next round, the foreign minister added.

Expressing satisfaction with the course of the talks, Araqchi said the US appears to have determination. “I am cautiously hopeful that we can reach a result.”
