IAEA Embraces Iran-US Talks
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency welcomed the negotiations between Iran and the US, expressing the UN nuclear agency’s readiness to contribute to the process of talks.
In a telephone conversation on Sunday, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi talked about the course of cooperation between Tehran and the UN nuclear agency.
Grossi welcomed the ongoing indirect talks between Iran and the US. He also reiterated the IAEA’s readiness to provide any assistance in this regard.
For his part, Araqchi underscored the importance of the IAEA’s role in the matters pertaining to Iran’s nuclear activities in accordance with the Agency’s legal duties and mandate, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
He also emphasized that Iran, as a responsible member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), will continue its cooperation with the IAEA pursuant to its legal and international obligations.
The Iranian foreign minister expressed hope that the remaining safeguards-related issues would be resolved swiftly with the IAEA’s technical and professional approach.
Araqchi also briefed Grossi on the latest developments concerning the indirect talks between Iran and the US.
