Outsiders Upsetting Persian Gulf Security: IRGC Navy Chief

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Navy warned that the malevolent presence of foreign military forces in the Persian Gulf is detrimental to peace and security in this strategic region.

Speaking to reporters at Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas on Tuesday, Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri said Iran pursues peace, friendship and fraternity among the regional countries in the Persian Gulf.

The fact that the IRGC Navy ensures the security of traffic of over 80 vessels in the Hormuz Strait every day indicates the importance that Iran attaches to this strategic location, he added.

Warning about the consequences of insecurity in the Persian Gulf for international trade, the commander said, “What matters to us in the Persian Gulf is peace, security, fraternity and friendship. We believe that the presence of outsiders in the Persian Gulf will disrupt security.”

He also warned that the enemies pursue two sinister objectives, which are an illegitimate presence in the region and arms sales to the Persian Gulf states.

In September 2023, Rear Admiral Tangsiri suggested that eight littoral states of the Persian Gulf should form a naval alliance to ensure regional security without the presence of outsiders.

He said the naval alliance will help the regional people live in peace, reminding the neighboring states that the outsiders provoke Iranophobia in order to justify their illegitimate presence in the region.
