Following a letter from the US President Donald Trump to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei expressing a readiness to pursue diplomacy, Iran entered indirect talks with Washington.
These talks were initiated based on goodwill, national confidence, and a desire to end a fabricated crisis created around Iran’s nuclear energy program.
Across three rounds of negotiations, Iranian representatives presented the country’s legitimate demands within a defined framework grounded in international law and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran, while emphasizing its commitment to the path of diplomacy and declaring its readiness to continue negotiations, absolutely does not tolerate approaches based on threats and pressure — all of which are contrary to the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law and are designed to harm Iran’s national interests and violate the human rights of Iranian citizens,” the statement read.
“In this regard, it strongly condemns the continuation of illegal sanctions and pressure on Iran’s trade and economic partners, considering it as yet another sign justifying the Iranian nation’s deep mistrust and suspicion toward the seriousness of the United States in the path of diplomacy.”
Iran declared that its legal and logical positions will remain unchanged in the face of unlawful US behavior.
It warned that repeating failed policies would yield nothing but another round of costly defeats for Washington.
The criticism comes amid uncertainty surrounding the timeline of resumed nuclear negotiations.
Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, acting as a mediator, announced that the fourth round of indirect US-Iran talks—initially set for Saturday, May 3—has been postponed. Barak Ravid of Axios confirmed the delay, noting that the talks, planned to be held in Rome, may now occur next week.
A related meeting between Iran and the European troika—the UK, France, and Germany—scheduled for Friday may also be postponed.
Iran and the US have so far held three indirect rounds of nuclear negotiations in Muscat and Rome on April 12, 19, and 26, aimed at lifting US illegal sanctions and resolving disputes over Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
