India Says Pakistan Violated Ceasefire on Line of Control
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – India has claimed there was another ceasefire violation by the Pakistani military on the Line of Control in the Indian-administered Kashmir.
"On the night of May 2-3, 2025, the Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the Line of Control opposite the Kupwara, Uri and Akhnoor districts in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir," the Indian army said in a statement quoted by the ANI news agency, TASS reported.
"The Indian Army responded promptly and proportionately," it said.
New Delhi says it has recorded nightly cross-border firing by Pakistani forces for the past week, following a terrorist attack in the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. High-ranking Indian and Pakistani military officials held talks on Tuesday, during which the Indian side lodged a formal protest.
New Delhi has issued a stern warning to Islamabad against further unprovoked ceasefire breaches by the Pakistani army along the Line of Control.
On April 22, armed men killed 25 Indians and one Nepalese national and wounded many more with machine gun fire in the popular tourist town of Pahalgam. According to media reports, Indian intelligence agencies allegedly found evidence that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was involved in the terrorist attack committed by the Lashkar-e-Taiba group. Pakistan has denied any involevment.
After the attack, India almost halved its embassy staff in Pakistan, suspended an agreement with Islamabad on the allocation of water resources, declared the military advisers of the Pakistani diplomatic mission in India personae non gratae, and also suspended the issuance of visas to Pakistani citizens. Pakistan has also taken measures in retaliation.
