Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Islamabad on Sunday night, Araqchi described Pakistan as an important neighbor with which Iran has deep-rooted relations.
Stressing the need to ensure peace and stability across the region, the foreign minister said Iran calls for the reduction of tensions between Pakistan and India.
The ties between Iran and Pakistan are highly significant, just like Iran’s relations with India, he added.
Araqchi said he will be holding close consultations with the Pakistani friends as he is going to hold talks with the president, prime minister and foreign minister of Pakistan to discuss the bilateral and regional issues.
In a telephone conversation with Araqchi on April 25, Pakistani Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar praised Iran for adopting a constructive and responsible stance on the tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi over a deadly attack in Pahalgam in Indian-administered Kashmir.
Pakistan and India are suspending key treaties and cutting crucial ties as their feud over the deadly attack in Kashmir escalates.
Suspected rebels killed at least 26 people on April 22 in the tourist resort of Pahalgam in the deadliest such attack in a quarter-century in Indian-administered Kashmir. A statement issued in the name of The Resistance Front (TRF), which is believed to be an offshoot of the Pakistani-based Lashkar-e-Taiba armed group, claimed responsibility for the attack.
