Iran Offers Help to Ease South Asia Tensions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi expressed the country’s readiness to help defuse tensions between India and Pakistan and ensure tranquility in South Asia.

In a meeting with Indian President Droupadi Murmu, held in New Delhi on Thursday, Araqchi reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to the promotion of cooperation with India in various areas of mutual interest.

Highlighting Iran’s opposition to all forms of terrorism, the foreign minister said Iran swiftly condemned a terrorist attack that killed several people in Indian-administered Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22.

Iran seriously favors peace and stability in South Asia and calls for the avoidance of any measure that may escalate tensions, Araqchi stated.

He said Iran is ready to offer good offices to help relieve tensions between India and Pakistan and ensure clam in South Asia.

For her part, the Indian president praised Iran’s stances. She said the relations between India and Iran are based upon robust cultural and historical foundations that have grown constantly during the past 75 years.

Murmu also expressed sympathy with Iran over the casualties of a massive blast that rocked Iran’s southern port of Shahid Rajaei on April 26.
