Trump Mixes Reconciliation Rhetoric with Pressure Warning on Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – US President Donald Trump, speaking in Riyadh, feigned willingness to resolve deep-rooted tensions with Iran while resorting to his usual coercive rhetoric, warning of harsher pressure should Tehran reject Washington's demands.

Speaking at a US-Saudi investment summit in the Saudi capital on Tuesday, Trump claimed he is open to restoring relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“As I have shown repeatedly, I am willing to end past conflicts and forge new partnerships for a better and more stable world, even if our differences may be very profound, which obviously they are in the case of Iran,” he said.

Despite this declared willingness, Trump emphasized that his proposal is not unconditional.

“We’re going to make your region and the world a safer place. But if Iran’s leadership rejects this olive branch..., then we will have no choice but to inflict massive, maximum pressure,” he claimed.

“This olive branch will not last forever,” Trump further claimed.

His remarks came as Iranian and US officials have resumed dialogue in recent weeks regarding Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.

During his first term, Trump unilaterally exited the 2015 nuclear agreement—an internationally endorsed deal that had lifted economic sanctions in exchange for oversight and limitations on Iran’s nuclear activities.

While Trump has recently expressed conditional openness toward Iran maintaining a civilian nuclear program, he continued to repeat unfounded allegations about Tehran’s nuclear program.

Despite Washington’s continued provocations, Iran has consistently reaffirmed its rejection of nuclear weapons, underscoring its commitment to peaceful scientific advancement under global oversight.
