Iran Assessing Participation in New Round of US Talks: Araqchi

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Tehran is considering whether or not to take part in the next round of indirect negotiations with the US.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Araqchi said Iran has already responded to the “illogical demands” of the US.

Reiterating Iran’s clear stance on upholding its rights, the foreign minister said, “Enrichment (in Iran) will continue with or without an agreement. However, we’ll be ready if the other sides are eager for transparency of Iran’s peaceful (nuclear) program.”

Asked about the fifth round of indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the US, Araqchi said, “We are assessing whether or not to participate in the next round of negotiations.”

He noted that Iran is evaluating if fruitful negotiations could be shaped at the time and location proposed for the next round of talks.

He stated that Iran rejects excessive demands at the negotiating table, although it has never bowed out of diplomacy.

Araqchi underlined that requests intending to deprive Iran of its rights will be out of the question.

Iran and the US have held four rounds of talks since April 12, mediated by Oman, with the purpose of reaching a deal on Iran’s nuclear program and the removal of sanctions on Tehran.
