Turkic States to Recognize Nowruz as Official Cultural Holiday, Erdogan Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that the Turkic States Organization will officially designate March 21 as Nowruz Day, recognizing it as a shared cultural celebration across member nations.

Speaking at an informal summit of the Turkic States Organization held in Hungary, Erdogan emphasized the importance of cultural unity among Turkic nations and hailed Nowruz as a symbol of common heritage.

Nowruz, which has its origins in ancient Iranian civilization, marks the arrival of spring and the beginning of the new year in the Persian calendar.

The celebration, observed across Central and Western Asia, transcends national borders and represents themes of renewal, peace, and cultural continuity.

Erdogan said the move is a step toward strengthening cultural ties among member states, underlining that “there is still a long road ahead” but expressed confidence in reaching shared goals together.
