US Needs to Discern Iran’s Stances: Araqchi

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi expressed hope that the US would develop a clearer understanding of Iran’s principal stances in order for tangible progress to be made in the negotiations.

The top Iranian diplomat, who was in Rome on Friday to attend the fifth round of indirect talks with the US, held a telephone conversation with his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani to brief him on the outcome of the negotiations.

Araqchi thanked Tajani for cooperating with Oman to host the latest round of talks, describing the Friday’s negotiations as professional and reasonable.

He also expressed hope that by creating a clearer understanding of Iran’s principled positions for the American side, tangible progress would be made in the negotiations, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

In the phone call, developments in the West Asia region were also discussed, particularly the ongoing genocide in the occupied Palestinian territories. The both foreign ministers underscored the urgent need to stop the atrocities of the Zionist regime in Gaza and provide aid to displaced people.

The Iranian foreign minister referred to the massacre of more than 60,000 innocent people in the past two years in Gaza and the complete destruction of the enclave, calling this situation a total catastrophe for humanity.

Araqchi criticized the full support of the US and some other Western countries for the Zionist regime and stressed the responsibility of all governments to help end the genocide in Gaza and to promptly supply humanitarian aids.

The Italian foreign minister, for his part, appreciated Iran’s responsible approach to diplomacy and thanked Araqchi for briefing on the outcome of the 5th round of talks with the US.

Tajani also said Italy is ready to keep providing assistance along this path.
