UK Warned to Avoid Pressing for Zero Enrichment in Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian foreign minister cautioned the UK that its insistence on bringing uranium enrichment in Iran to a halt will leave nothing left for the nuclear talks.

Politics

“Iran has maintained multilateral engagement with the UK and other European JCPOA participants in good faith, even as the US continues to show no interest in getting them involved in the ongoing negotiation process,” Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said in a post on his X account on Tuesday night.

“If the UK position is 'zero enrichment' in Iran —in violation of the NPT and UK commitments as a remaining JCPOA participant— there is nothing left for us to discuss on the nuclear issue,” the top Iranian diplomat warned.

Iranian officials have emphasized that under no circumstances would Iran relinquish its hard-won right to enrich uranium.

In remarks on May 20, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei made it clear that Iran will not seek permission from anybody for uranium enrichment, advising the US negotiators engaged in indirect talks with Iran to avoid making absurd comments.
