No Compromise on Right to Enrichment: Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry denied rumors that Tehran is prepared to compromise on its right to uranium enrichment activities.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Esmaeil Baqaei rejected the media rumors about Iran’s flexibility over the issue of uranium enrichment.

“The continuation of enrichment in Iran as an inseparable part of the country’s nuclear industry is a fundamental principle for the Islamic Republic of Iran. Any proposal or initiative that may contradict this principle or pave the way for the violation of this right will not be accepted,” he underlined.

Asked about the latest developments in the indirect negotiations between Iran and the US, Baqaei said consultations are in progress to set the time and location of the next round of talks, noting that Oman will announce the results as soon as they are finalized.

The spokesman reiterated that the talks between Iran and the US revolve only around the nuclear issue and the removal of sanctions.

He stated that the criterion for the US’ seriousness in the negotiations would be the removal of the illegal sanctions which have violated the basic human rights.

Baqaei finally described the claims on the possible dimensions of an ultimate agreement as mere media speculations that are based on specific purposes and may not be confirmed at all.

Iran and the US have held five rounds of talks since April 12, mediated by Oman, with the purpose of reaching a deal on Iran’s nuclear program and the removal of sanctions on Tehran.
