Iran Condemns Austrian Intelligence Claims on Nuclear Program as Baseless

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran's Foreign Ministry on Monday denounced “baseless” allegations by Austria’s intelligence agency questioning the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, calling them unfounded and aimed at creating a hostile media atmosphere.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqaei said the claim made by the Austrian intelligence agency lacked any credibility or documentation.

He described it as a fabricated allegation intended solely to fuel negative media coverage against the Islamic Republic.

“Iran is a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty and its nuclear program is subject to the strictest inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency,” Baqaei stated.

He argued that the Austrian agency’s action undermines the credibility of the IAEA.

Baqaei further criticized Austria and several European countries for their “hypocritical silence” over Israel’s possession of weapons of mass destruction.

He said their unconditional support for the “genocidal and occupying regime of Israel” prevents progress toward a Middle East free of WMDs.

“Iran is a staunch opponent of nuclear weapons and all weapons of mass destruction,” Baqaei said.

He reaffirmed Iran’s longstanding commitment to the goal of establishing a WMD-free zone in West Asia region.

Condemning disinformation spread by the Austrian intelligence agency, Baqaei called on the Austrian government to provide an official explanation for the irresponsible, provocative, and destructive behavior by an official institution of the European country.
