General Hatami Named Iran’s Army Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Brigadier General Amir Hatami was appointed by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei as the new commander of Iran’s Army.

In a decree on Friday, Ayatollah Khamenei, Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces, promoted Brigadier General Hatami to the rank of major general and appointed him as the new Army chief.

“Given the vast reservoir of capable and faithful human resources within the Army, as well as the experiences gained during the Sacred Defense era and beyond, it is expected that during your command—with a transformative and revolutionary approach—the enhancement of combat readiness, spiritual and ideological vigilance, the fulfillment of livelihood needs for personnel, and synergy with other armed forces will accelerate,” the Leader said in the decree.

General Hatami served as Iran’s Defense Minister from 2017 to 2021.

He replaces Major General  Abdolrahim Mousavi, who was named the new Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces earlier in the day.
