EU Faces Pressure As Gaza Humanitarian Crisis Deepens under Israeli Siege

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson urged the European Union to immediately suspend the trade component of its association agreement with Israel, denouncing Tel Aviv’s brutal war on Gaza and its obstruction of humanitarian aid.

“The situation in Gaza is absolutely appalling, and Israel is failing to fulfil its most basic obligations and agreements on emergency aid,” Kristersson stated on X.

He demanded that the EU “freeze the trade section of the association agreement as soon as possible” and pressed the Israeli regime to allow “unhindered humanitarian aid into Gaza,” a demand ignored by Israeli authorities who continue to tighten their inhumane siege.

Meanwhile, Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul reaffirmed support for the two-state solution but stressed that the process must commence immediately.

“A negotiated two-state solution remains the only path that can offer people on both sides a life in peace, security, and dignity,” he said before traveling to the occupied Palestinian territories and Israel.

“For Germany, the recognition of a Palestinian state comes more at the end of that process. But such a process must begin now,” Wadephul added, hinting at Germany’s reluctance to take decisive action against Israel's ongoing crimes.

On the ground in Gaza, the human catastrophe intensifies.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) shared a harrowing testimony from a staff member named Dahlia.

“In Gaza, hunger is no longer a shadow; it’s a constant companion,” she wrote on X.

“Every morning I wake up with the same question: Will I find bread to feed my children today?”

“A small piece of bread becomes a treasure. A spoonful of rice is a reason to smile. My children ask for food, but the silence that follows is louder than any bomb.”

The Israeli war machine continues its indiscriminate slaughter of civilians.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 111 Palestinians, including 91 civilians waiting for aid, were killed in the past 24 hours alone.

A further 820 were injured in relentless attacks targeting desperate populations seeking food and shelter.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s genocidal campaign has killed 60,249 Palestinians and wounded 147,089 others.

Following the imposition of a new Israeli-controlled aid distribution mechanism on May 27, the number of aid-seeking victims has soared to 1,330 killed and over 8,818 wounded.

As the humanitarian disaster worsens and Israeli atrocities continue with impunity, pressure mounts on the European Union to end its complicity and sever trade ties with the apartheid regime.
