In a statement released on Friday night, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei condemned the Israeli regime’s plan for the military occupation of Gaza City as a part of a plot to complete the genocide of Palestinian people.
He said the threat of full occupation of Gaza City from the Israeli criminals that are prosecuted by the International Criminal Court and whose case of genocidal crimes has come to the International Court of Justice reveals the Zionist regime’s clear intention to carry out ethnic cleansing in Gaza and commit genocide of Palestinians.
The Iranian spokesman reminded the UN and all governments of their responsibility to stop genocidal crimes in Palestine, denouncing the shameful complicity of the US and other Western countries in the Israeli atrocities.
It is necessary to compel the Zionist regime to stop genocidal crimes and deliver immediate humanitarian aid to starving people of Gaza in order to halt a catastrophe that has rattled the legal, moral and normative pillars of human civilization, he added.
The spokesman also expressed Iran’s request from the secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Saudi Arabia (as the host of the OIC), and Turkey (as the president of the ministerial council of the OIC) to hold an emergency meeting of the OIC.
Baqaei called for concerted action by the OIC member states to help the oppressed people of Palestine.
The Zionist regime’s security cabinet has approved a plan by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the military occupation of Gaza City and imposition of a siege on Hamas fighters.
The Israeli regime’s military operation reportedly involves all Palestinian civilians being displaced from the northern city to camps in central Gaza.
Many Palestinians said the Israeli decision to occupy Gaza City is not seen as a strategic or tactical maneuver, but is seen as the institutionalization of domination.
The Israeli regime’s war on Gaza has killed at least 61,258 people and wounded 152,045 since October 2023.
