Iran Urges NAM to Stand United against Unilateralism, Lawlessness

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi called for stronger unity and solidarity among the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member states to confront growing unilateralism and law-breaking by certain powers.

Araqchi, attending the 19th Midterm Ministerial Review Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement in Kampala on Wednesday, addressed the general session to outline Iran’s positions on key global issues.

Araqchi emphasized the importance of upholding the founding principles of the NAM, particularly the right of nations to self-determination, respect for the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter, the prohibition of the use of force, and the condemnation of unilateral coercive measures.

He called for enhanced solidarity and unity among developing countries to confront the growing challenges and threats arising from unilateralism and domination by certain powers.

Referring to the criminal aggression carried out by the Zionist regime and the US against Iran in June, the foreign minister described it as a clear example of lawlessness and recklessness by the two regimes. He also warned of the continuing threats posed by them to global peace and security.

Araqchi condemned the unlawful attempt by three European countries to exploit the dispute settlement mechanism of the JCPOA and the UN Security Council to reimpose previously lifted Security Council resolutions against Iran. He noted that this move was rejected by several Security Council members, including two permanent members, and therefore holds no legal validity.

The foreign minister also recalled the expiration date of UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which relates to Iran’s nuclear issue, on October 18, urging NAM members to oppose any misuse of international institutions—particularly the UN Security Council—for blackmailing and pressuring developing nations.

Araqchi underlined that, given the lack of legal standing of the three European countries to invoke the JCPOA dispute mechanism, their clear bad faith, and the explicit opposition of two permanent Security Council members to their actions, the claim by the US and the three Europeans regarding the reinstatement of the annulled Security Council resolutions is invalid and must not be recognized as having any legal effect by other countries.
