Pakistan Airstrike Suspected in Kabul Blast As Taliban Denies

An Afghan government source informed Al Jazeera that Pakistan carried out an airstrike on a residential house in central Kabul.

The source said the attack targeted a home in the heart of the Afghan capital.

Earlier, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the Kabul fire was caused by a fuel tanker explosion.

In a video message, Mujahid stated that a tanker carrying oil exploded in one district of Kabul.

He said the explosion was accidental and there was no cause for concern.

Mujahid added that a fire broke out at the scene but the situation was under control.

These remarks came as several reports suggested a targeted attack or deliberate explosion in Kabul.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s military denied Taliban claims of seizing border posts.

It said Taliban fighters launched multiple attacks early Wednesday in the Spin Boldak area, leaving 15 to 20 people dead.

The army accused the Taliban of spreading false claims about capturing posts and distorting reality while damaging the symbolic “Friendship Gate” between Islamabad and Kabul.

The clashes resulted in several injuries, with fresh gatherings of Afghan Taliban and Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan fighters reported in the area.

In retaliatory strikes Tuesday night in Kurram, Pakistani forces destroyed six Taliban tanks, killing an estimated 25 to 30 fighters.

The military called Taliban claims about initiating attacks and capturing posts “false and propagandist.”

Earlier today, Taliban officials confirmed an explosion in Kabul but denied reports of gunfire or fighting in the city.

Local sources reported hearing two consecutive blasts in parts of the capital, sparking concern among residents.

In an initial response on social media, Mujahid wrote that “a blast was heard in Kabul, but there is no need to worry.”

He said investigations were underway and no casualties or damage had been reported.

Taliban Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Mateen Qani confirmed that an explosion occurred in Kabul but said reports of clashes or shootings were false.

Qani added that security forces were investigating the incident and would release further details once the probe concluded.
