Iranian, Afghan Officials Discuss Security Cooperation, Border Issues

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Officials from Iran and Afghanistan talked about security cooperation between the two neighbors and the ways to ensure security along the common border.

Politics

The meeting, held in Kabul, was attended by Iran’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Alireza Bikdeli, Director General for South Asia at the Iranian Foreign Ministry Mohammad Reza Bahrami, and interior minister of the Taliban, Sirajuddin Haqqani.

The talks revolved around security cooperation and border issues between the two neighboring countries.

The two sides also held detailed consultations on joint efforts to combat drug trafficking and to enhance coordination along the common border.

The Iranian delegation stressed the importance of maintaining stability along the shared borders and continuing dialogue to resolve issues through a spirit of understanding and cooperation.

For his part, Haqqani emphasized the importance of regional cooperation, stating that the Taliban seek good relations based on mutual respect with all countries, especially their neighbors.
