Asked if Egypt has emerged as a new mediator between Iran and the US, Esmaeil Baqaei said at a presser on Monday that while contacts between Iran and the opposing parties continue -more or less- through intermediaries, this would not mean that a new stage of negotiations has begun.
The spokesman emphasized that negotiations will not take shape unless the two sides come to the conclusion that they should respect each other’s positions and rights and address each other’s concerns in equal conditions.
“We are currently not in such a stage. As long as the excessive expectations and demands (of the US) are in place, there will be no ground for negotiations and understanding,” Baqaei underlined.
