Lavrentiev’s visit to Tehran came as part of ongoing consultations between the two countries on issues related to Syria and broader regional affairs.
During the meeting, Araqchi highlighted the “robust and expanding” relations between Iran and Russia, emphasizing their close coordination in bilateral, regional, and international fields.
He also expressed appreciation for Moscow’s “firm and principled” stance at the UN Security Council in opposing the misuse of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action’s dispute resolution mechanism —known as the snapback— to reinstate previously lifted sanctions on Iran’s nuclear program.
For his part, Lavrentiev reaffirmed the strategic nature of Iran-Russia relations and stressed the importance of maintaining regular dialogue between senior officials of both countries on regional and global developments.
Both sides reiterated their shared commitment to safeguarding Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, opposing any actions that could undermine them, and preventing the country from turning into a hub for terrorism.
